Comparison methodology

Methodology

Dental Trip Savings estimates the potential cost difference between getting a single dental implant locally in the US and travelling abroad for treatment. The comparison combines reviewed clinic prices with estimated flight and accommodation costs using the methodology explained below.

What the comparison covers

Dental Trip Savings currently compares one treatment: a single dental implant. The comparison focuses on the estimated cost difference between receiving treatment locally in the US and travelling abroad, including relevant travel costs.

US cost baseline

The current baseline series is an implant-only benchmark derived from approved US pricing source data for the relevant departure market. It is used as a consistent reference for calculating the estimated cost difference between local treatment and treatment abroad.

Clinic data review

Each clinic must pass a manual review before it can be included in Dental Trip Savings. We verify the clinic identity and location, official website, a published single-implant “from” price, the scope of that price, the supporting source and the date the information was checked.

Accommodation is not required for a clinic to be included. If clinic-provided accommodation is unavailable or cannot be verified, the comparison may instead use a validated destination-level accommodation estimate where required.

Clinic information is reviewed before inclusion and periodically rechecked afterwards. Each reviewed record keeps a last-checked date. We aim to keep published information current and source-backed and do not knowingly publish information that we know to be inaccurate or outdated. However, clinic prices, package details and other information can change between checks.

If you believe any clinic information on Dental Trip Savings needs to be updated, please contact us so that it can be reviewed.

Different price scopes

Clinic pricing is not standardized across providers. One published “from” price may cover the implant only, while another may also include an abutment, crown or a more complete package.

We therefore do not force every clinic into an artificial one-to-one price comparison. A clinic may still be included when it represents a strong overall option, even if its published price covers a broader scope than the US implant-only baseline.

When this happens, the scope shown in the report is important. A broader clinic price may include more treatment components than the US baseline used for comparison, which can make the comparison conservative rather than directly like-for-like.

Flights and representative travel periods

Flight estimates are based on representative travel periods approximately 60 days and 150 days ahead, using a six-night stay.

The comparison uses round-trip economy fares for one adult, with zero or one stop. The fare assumption is backpack-only, so additional baggage and other optional airline extras are not included unless they are already part of the fare used in the estimate.

Travel prices are checked and refreshed periodically, and the comparison uses the most recent valid travel data available.

These representative dates are modelling assumptions and do not imply that the user should travel on those exact dates.

Accommodation estimate

If accommodation is included in the clinic offer, no separate accommodation cost is added to the trip estimate.

If the clinic provides or arranges accommodation at a verified price, that amount may be used. When separate accommodation is required, the comparison uses a validated destination-level hotel estimate where available.

If required accommodation data cannot be validated, the option is treated as incomplete or unavailable rather than using an assumed or invented cost.

Currency conversion

Prices published in currencies other than USD are converted to USD using a dated exchange rate available when the data is processed.

The original price and currency are retained together with the source information. Exchange rates are checked and refreshed periodically, and the comparison uses the most recent valid rate available.

Calculation

The estimated total trip cost combines the clinic price, the round-trip flight estimate and, where required, the accommodation estimate. All amounts are expressed in USD using the currency-conversion method described above.

Potential savings are calculated by comparing this estimated total trip cost with the relevant US implant-only baseline.

If the estimated trip cost is higher than the US baseline, the difference is shown as an estimated additional cost rather than as savings.

Minimum savings threshold

Dental Trip Savings does not display a result as a meaningful savings opportunity when the estimated potential savings are below $400.

Cheapest Trip, Fastest Trip and Best Overall

Cheapest Trip identifies the option with the lowest estimated total trip cost, while Fastest Trip identifies the option with the shortest estimated flight time.

Best Overall considers multiple available comparison factors rather than cost or travel time alone, with the aim of highlighting a balanced option.

These labels are provided as an informational comparison to help users evaluate their options; the final decision remains with the user.

Data freshness

Clinic information is reviewed on a recurring basis, with a standard review target around 60 days and a stronger recheck point around 90 days.

Flight and accommodation estimates used in the comparison are based on data that is up to 12 days old, while exchange rates are also checked and refreshed periodically.

If a required input cannot be validated reliably, the option may be omitted rather than completed with an assumed or invented value.

What is not included

Unless a clinic source clearly states otherwise, the comparison does not assume that additional treatment or travel-related costs are included. This may include consultation, examination, imaging, extraction, bone grafting, sinus procedures, sedation, medication, laboratory work, temporary work, complications, aftercare, repeat visits, local transport, additional baggage, taxes, insurance and other case-specific costs.

Dental Trip Savings also does not assess whether a treatment or clinic is medically suitable for a particular person, compare clinical quality or safety, predict treatment outcomes, determine insurance reimbursement, or establish travel, immigration or legal requirements.

Before making a treatment or payment decision, users should verify the final price, treatment scope, provider credentials, travel details and applicable terms directly with the relevant clinic or provider.
